Having an awareness of the importance of both fish health and water quality, is the first step to maintaining an environment where koi and other fish can flourish and bring joy to hobbyists for many years.

A healthy pond starts with good water quality. Maintaining ideal water quality is paramount for the well-being of your pond and for healthy fish. In fact, poor water quality is the catalyst for most fish health problems.

Ponds Northwest has two fully trained Pond Medics. If you are experiencing fish health problems and need some help identifying and treating the cause, we offer a Pond Medic health visit service. Our Pond Medics will come out to your pond and help restore your fish to optimum health. We can stop, or at the very least minimise, the loss of fish caused by poor water quality, parasites, bacterial or fungal infections and viral diseases.

Our Pond Medic health visits include the following services:

  • Full range of water quality testing

  • Health check on your fish

  • Water flow check to ensure oxygen levels are sufficient

  • Mucus scrape with analysis under the microscope, and diagnosis

On diagnosis, as required, we can offer additional services

  • Water treatment to rebalance water quality levels

  • Treatment plan for the fish – topical treatments and/or course of medication

  • Treatment/care plan for the pond
